Razvan Brasla | Apartment Building
Bucharest, District 1, Holban St. | B+G+6F | 4,800sqm | General Designer | 2021 | concept

This is the initial concept of the apartment building on Holban St. (District 1) — the first image variant of the Razvan Brasla project. What makes it memorable is the shape of the facade.

The shape of the facade

The facade is a composition of white prismatic volumes, offset from one level to the next: boxes that cantilever out and step back alternately, alternating with deep glazed loggias, glass balustrades and warm timber soffits. The play of solids and voids gives a strong three-dimensional relief, with shadows that shift throughout the day — far from the flat facade of an ordinary block. The top level steps back, with terraces and a grey crown, while at ground level the upper volumes cantilever out over the entrance and the ground-level parking.

Result

The concept formed the basis for the later developed version of the building (see Razvan Brasla | Apartment building — the project taken further towards authorisation). For PPAE, a demonstration of an architectural image built from the very shape of the facade.
