Holleman Bucharest Special Transport | Cargo Warehouse and Offices
Jilava, Ilfov County | G+1F partially | 3,300sqm | General Designer | 2007-2015 | in use

Holleman’s Jilava headquarters and hall — home to one of the most important heavy and oversized transport companies in Romania and Eastern Europe. On the Bucharest Ring Road, PPAE designed here not just any warehouse, but an operational base tailored to a very particular profile: the place from which the vehicles that carry wind turbines, transformers and machinery weighing tens or hundreds of tonnes set out and are maintained. PPAE was the General Designer.

The brief

An oversized transport company needs something altogether different from a standard hall. It required a hall in which heavy modular trailers could be assembled and serviced, with an overhead crane and a mechanical workshop; a wash bay for the large trucks; offices to coordinate operations; and, above all, a very generous yard in which the oversized convoys could be parked and manoeuvred safely.

Solutions

PPAE arranged the hall around its specific functions — mechanical workshop, overhead-crane and trailer-assembly area, truck wash bay — complemented by ancillary spaces: offices (G+1F partially), changing rooms, technical and storage areas. On a plot of over 2 hectares, the building occupies only about a tenth, the rest remaining manoeuvring yard and parking for the specialised fleet. The industrial water from the hall, laden with hydrocarbons, passes through a separator before discharge. The complex was developed in phases, between 2007 and 2015.

Result

For Holleman, a base to match its activity — functional, with manoeuvring room to suit the largest transports in the country. For PPAE, an industrial project shaped around an entirely distinctive operational profile, carried from concept to completion.
