Polystyrene production and storage hall and adhesives production hall for Daw Benta Romania at Sancraiu de Mures — a facility developed for Daw Benta Romania SRL, part of the German group Daw SE, with a tradition of over 130 years in the production of decorative paints and thermal-insulation systems (the best-known brand in the portfolio being Caparol). With a built area of approximately 6,000 sqm, the complex involved the full relocation to Romania of an existing polystyrene production line from Germany.

Challenges

For the adhesives hall, the technological design was delivered in full by the supplier, and the architecture could be calibrated on its basis. For the polystyrene hall, the situation was different: the technological line to be relocated was operating in Germany, and PPAE documented it directly on site — the survey of the production line was carried out by our team together with Daw Benta representatives, at the parent factory in Germany. Based on this survey and the beneficiary's continuous guidance, the technological flow was transposed into the new building in Romania.

Solutions

• On-site survey in Germany, followed by coordinated transposition in Romania. For the polystyrene hall, the PPAE team travelled to the existing factory to measure and document the technological line, in the absence of a complete technological design. The survey formed the basis for positioning the equipment, silos and routes in the new building, under the iterative guidance of the client who knew the flow in detail.
• Two single-storey halls with distinct requirements. The polystyrene hall — with silos for raw material, specific requirements for handling expanded-polystyrene beads, calibrated ventilation. The adhesives hall — designed on the basis of a complete technological-flow plan, with the hygiene and ventilation requirements specific to chemical production.

Result

For Daw Benta Romania, a facility that enabled the transfer of polystyrene and adhesives production from Germany to Romania, integrated on the beneficiary's existing site. For PPAE, a project that confirms the team's ability to deliver industrial buildings in particular contexts — including by travelling to parent factories to directly document technological lines that are to be relocated.
