The extension and modernisation of the Avicarvil poultry slaughterhouse in Târgu Jiu, Gorj County — the second milestone in PPAE’s collaboration with the Carmistin group, alongside the new slaughterhouse in Frâncești. Here, however, the theme is different: not a new building on open land, but the development of a unit already in production. PPAE was General Designer.

Challenges

Extending a working slaughterhouse is more delicate than building one from scratch. Room had to be made — by merging three plots into a single site of over 23,000 sqm — and new bodies and equipment added, without interrupting the flow of a platform that operates daily. To this is added the natural course of a living investment: during execution, the brief was adjusted, the project being adapted to the real needs of production.

Solutions

PPAE merged the three plots and organised the extensions around the existing slaughterhouse: a new slaughterhouse body, the equipping with machinery, a car wash, the platform for the refrigeration systems, concrete platforms and precast site elements. The new bodies were integrated into the technological flow and the circulation of the operating unit, and the change of brief during execution was managed without blocking the site or production.

Result

For Avicarvil, increased capacity and standards at the Gorj unit, achieved by developing the existing platform rather than relocating it. For PPAE, confirmation of its role as a growth partner of the Carmistin group — a collaboration that includes the Frâncești slaughterhouse, the Pajo Agriculture compound feed factory in Băbeni and the Intermeat animal waste treatment plant in Galicea.
