Between 2009 and 2013, PPAE designed a series of Border Police headquarters at Romania's external borders — on the northern and eastern frontier, with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova (Maramureș, Suceava, Botoșani, Vaslui, Tulcea), and on the western one, with Serbia (Timiș). The projects were carried out under the European programmes for the external borders (the External Borders Fund and the Schengen Facility), to bring the Border Police infrastructure up to European Union standards. The works covered the whole range — from the rehabilitation and modernisation of existing buildings (some of them historic) and structural consolidations, to extensions and the construction of entirely new administrative pavilions, each with the technical annexes of a border headquarters. PPAE was General Designer.

The projects

• SPF Valea Vișeului (Bistra commune, Maramureș County) — rehabilitation of the existing administrative pavilion (G+1F) and construction of a second, new administrative pavilion (G+1F), together with a garage and a fire-water reserve. The sector lies at an important railway hub on the border with Ukraine.
• SPF Sărăsău (Sărăsău commune, Maramureș County) — rehabilitation, refurbishment and modernisation of the existing administrative pavilion (B+G+1F) and construction of a new garage, with the related technical facilities.
• SPF Vișeul de Sus (Maramureș County) — construction of an entirely new administrative pavilion (B+G+2F), after demolishing the old structures on the site (keeping the communications tower), together with the technical annexes.
• SPF Sighet (Sighetu Marmației, Maramureș County) — rehabilitation and modernisation of pavilion no. 5, the seat of the Sighetu Marmației Border Police Sector, a 19th-century monument building with a load-bearing masonry structure, within the inspectorate's grounds.
• SPF Brodina (Brodina commune, Suceava County) — rehabilitation and modernisation of the existing administrative pavilion (B+G+F) and construction of the annexes, on a site of about 7,000 sqm, on the northern border.
• PTF Vicșani (Suceava County) — rehabilitation, modernisation and roof conversion of the administrative pavilion of the Vicșani railway crossing point, together with the related technical annexes.
• SPF Darabani (Botoșani County) — rehabilitation of the existing administrative pavilion (G+F, from 1978) and construction of a new body — administrative pavilion and garage (G+F), extending the existing one.
• SPF Fălciu (Fălciu commune, Vaslui County) — major repairs to the existing administrative pavilion (G+2F) and construction of new objects — car garage, fire-water reserve with pumping station and a sports ground — on the eastern border, with the Republic of Moldova.
• SPF Chilia (Chilia Veche, Tulcea County) — the most complex of the projects: structural consolidation, modernisation and extension of the existing buildings of the headquarters, together with the construction of a new pavilion — in a location in the Danube Delta, on the border with Ukraine.
• SPF Cruceni (Timiș County) — rehabilitation of the existing administrative pavilion (G+1F) and of the warehouse, with the demolition of the old garage, on the western border, with Serbia.
• SPF Sânnicolau Mare (Timiș County) — rehabilitation and modernisation of three administrative pavilions within the headquarters — repairs, facade renewal, thermal rehabilitation and modern installations (including solar hot-water preparation) — to align with European norms.

These projects are part of a long-standing collaboration between PPAE and the Border Police, spread over several years and six border counties — a relationship continued through other projects for the Border Police General Inspectorate as well.
