Agronicolescu | Swine Farm Complex
Florica, Buzău County | G | 14,500sqm | General Designer | 2010-2014 | in use

A swine farm complex in Florica, Buzău County, conceived as a complete cycle. Here, for the same operator, PPAE designed two complementary farms a few hundred metres apart: a swine breeding farm and a fattening farm with grain storage. Together, they cover the whole journey — from piglet to market pig, with the feed produced and stored on site. PPAE was General Designer.

The two farms

The breeding farm (Ceres Nova) comprises the gilt room, the early-gestation and free-gestation halls and the maternity — the place where the piglets are born and raised. A few hundred metres away, the fattening farm (Agro Nicolescu) takes over the piglets and brings them to market weight, in fattening halls served by silos with a dryer, where the grain for feed is stored. The two farms operate as the successive links of the same chain.

Challenges and solutions

Livestock farms stand out not through the spectacular, but through rigour: strict biosecurity, clear flows between the “clean” zones and the production ones, sanitary filters, the correct management of manure and waste water. PPAE organised both farms on an extended rural site, with the halls, silos, micro treatment plants and manure basins laid out according to sanitary-veterinary rules, and the manure used as fertiliser for the surrounding farmland.

Result

For the operator, a self-sufficient complex: breeding, fattening and its own feed, on the same site — an integrated model that reduces dependence on external suppliers. For PPAE, solid experience in animal husbandry, in a type of investment that Romania, a major importer of pork, needs more and more.
